Our Workshops
The European Drum Majors and Friends Association regularly offers workshops for Drum Majors and interested band members.
They are designed for complete beginners through to advanced Drum Majors and follow the standards of the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association (RSPBA).
The aim is to sustainably improve technique, bearing, and leadership, while establishing a consistent standard — all within a professional, respectful, and open learning environment.
Focus Areas
Our workshops are always tailored to the experience level and interests of the participants and combine theoretical input with extensive practical marching exercises. The following areas are typically covered:
History & Theory
Understanding the origins, role, and responsibilities of the Drum Major.
Dress
Correct appearance, uniform standards, and refined presentation.
Drill & discipline
Precise marching, secure formations, and clearly defined movements – both active and passive.
Commands
Commands and command sequences, with and without the use of the mace.
Band leadership
Responsible leadership, effective communication, and teamwork.
Mace-Flourishing
Technique and professional preparation for competition.
On-Site Workshops
In addition to our regular workshops, we also offer tailored training sessions directly with bands on site.
Whether marching, discipline, formations, presentation, or core Drum Major communication – we adapt the content to suit the specific needs of each band.
